Executive Editor, ADDitude Magazine, New York, NY (mid town)
ADDitude magazine, the fast-growing national health and parenting magazine for families living with attention deficit disorder, seeks a high-energy Executive Editor with exceptional editing skills and the editorial vision to expand the magazine’s successful innovative service journalism format.
The Executive Editor will:
1) Develop the content and lineup of each bi-monthly issue, assigning features and departments to freelancers and regular contributors and identifying new writers.
2) With the assistance of Assistant Editor and Copy Editor, oversee the execution of each issue: edit submitted articles, write heads, decks, sidebars, manage close.
3) Provide visual direction for articles and cover of each issue to Creative Director and in-house art team.
Requirements:
*5 to 7 years experience in consumer magazines (parenting, health, or women’s service category experience strongly preferred) including experience assigning, editing, and producing feature articles.
*Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the topics addressed by ADDitude (health, parenting, home organization, education and learning)
*Superior writing, assigning, and editing (both content and line editing) skills
*Leadership sills and ability to manage staff to meet deadlines
*Innovative, energetic team player
*Advanced degree (journalism or other) preferred.
*Strong technical skills (Word, Quark, Internet)
